Port of Argentia Acknowledges Local Community for Support to Truckers

Port of Argentia offers a resounding applause to local Placentia area residents for their outpouring of support to essential workers and truckers during the recent reactivation of the Argentia to North Sydney ferry crossing by Marine Atlantic.

CEO Scott Penney states, “The Port is proud of the actions taken by concerned residents and businesses in our community as they stepped up to provide support and food donations to the hundreds of truckers who passed through Argentia during this period. We know this community meets every challenge when faced with adversity, but these acts of kindness really set the pace as we approach the Festive Season.”

Due to washouts along the southwest coast of the province caused by torrential rains recently, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and Marine Atlantic reactivated the normally seasonal service at Argentia to secure the supply chain during this busy season.

The Placentia area responded with generous donations of food to truckers who were lined up for reservations on the crossing, including overnight standby for a week.

Penney added, “The Port wishes to acknowledge Marine Atlantic for opening the Argentia route to offset the disruption caused by road washouts and local terminal workers for springing into action and providing a workable alternative. Effective interaction, planning and communication among all parties resulted in a smooth execution of services.”

Stay tuned for an exciting announcement by the Port to acknowledge the overwhelming support provided by local residents.
