Port of Argentia Acknowledges Local Community with Turkeys Donation to area Food Bank

The Port of Argentia is donating 150 turkeys to the Placentia Area Food Bank as a gesture of thanks to area residents for their outpouring of support to essential workers and truckers during the recent reactivation of the Argentia to North Sydney ferry crossing by Marine Atlantic.

Port Chairperson Wayne Power states, “The generosity shown by area residents with their donations of meals to truckers passing through Argentia is commendable and the Port wanted to show its appreciation to our community at large, so it’s fitting that we donate turkeys to families who need it most during this Festive Season.”

“We approached the local food bank and confirmed a significant shortfall of donations to meet the demand and expressed a pressing need for turkeys. The Port felt compelled to make a significant donation to ensure that families in the area have a turkey dinner for Christmas”, stated Port CEO Scott Penney.

Placentia Area Food Bank spokesperson Danny O’Reilly says, “The demand for food hampers has been on the rise in our area and the Port of Argentia stepped up in a big way to offset our shortfall of turkeys for our Christmas hampers; this generous donation will provide comfort to many of our most needy local residents. We distribute food hampers to over 300 clients spread over 30 communities from Ship Hr. to Branch; the need is great and this donation puts us over the top”.

In the true spirit of community giving, local businesses, residents, service clubs and churches organized meal donations and deliveries to truckers during the recent ferry crossings.
