Port of Argentia Donates $500,000 to Community Wellness Centre
Placentia, NL – July 22, 2025 – Port of Argentia has proudly donated $500,000 in a community initiative to support the regional wellness facility and arena in Placentia, NL. The donation secures the naming rights to the centre, which will be called Port of Argentia Wellness Centre. The arena within the complex will be named Port of Argentia Arena.
“Port of Argentia is committed to supporting our community in initiatives that enhance the quality of life in Placentia and the surrounding region,” says Genny Picco, chair of the Port of Argentia board of directors. “This facility will serve as a hub for recreation, wellness, and community engagement, and we are honored to contribute to its success.”
Port of Argentia’s donation is part of its long-term commitment to working alongside the Town of Placentia and surrounding communities to support projects that drive economic and social well-being.
“Over the last several years, Port of Argentia has experienced tremendous growth by exploring new industries and emerging opportunities,” says Scott Penney, CEO of Port of Argentia. “Aligning ourselves with initiatives like this wellness centre ensures our success translates into real, lasting benefits for the community and our local partners. It’s important to us that as we grow, we grow together.”
YMCA Newfoundland and Labrador operates out of the centre, delivering a wide range of inclusive programs and services that promote health, wellness, recreation, and community development across the region.
The name and donation were announced today at a community event with the Port of Argentia board of directors, representatives from the Town of Placentia, YMCA Newfoundland and Labrador, and community groups.
