Ports Secures Contract to Receive Offshore Wind Blades
“The Port has done it again!” says CEO Scott Penney. “We’ve been saying the marshalling of monopiles for the U.S. offshore wind market would be only the beginning and now we are seeing the arrival of wind turbine blades.”
Building on its portfolio of projects in support of the global energy transition, Port of Argentia has secured a significant contract to receive and store offshore wind turbine blades. The Port has entered into a lease and services agreement for marshalling and security services utilizing a 12-hectare bonded yard at Argentia.
This arrangement with Scan Global Logistics, will see 220 wind turbine blades arrive via heavy transport vessels at Argentia, beginning this fall and continuing into 2025.
Vessels will then collect and deliver the blades for installation at wind farms off the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S.

Port Establishes the “Q” Lookout Rest Area
Port of Argentia has established the “Q” Lookout, a rest area overlooking Argentia Harbour. The Site provides visitors with a parking area, rest benches and a signboard giving information on the Combined Bachelor Quarters (CBQ).
The “Q”, built in 1957, was an imposing 10-storey building which housed bachelor officers stationed at U.S. Naval Station Argentia. The “Q” was levelled through a controlled implosion in 1999.
To learn more or renew fond memories, all are welcome to visit the Q Lookout site and reflect on the 42-year presence of this remarkable building at Argentia.
Cenovus Pre-Dredging and Flooding
Cenovus Energy has ramped up preparations in advance of next year’s tow-out of the concrete gravity structure (CGS).
A pre-dredging campaign was recently completed, with boulders and industrial debris collected from the harbour bottom by specialized backhoes, transported by barges to the marine terminal, then trucked to the Northside containment area for deposit.
Cenovus West White Rose project reached another significant milestone recently with the planned flooding of the CGS graving dock in Argentia.
Although the CGS will not be towed out to sea until 2025, this early flooding allows the team to test the water ballast systems within the CGS.
Community Outreach
Hike Placentia
Port of Argentia is pleased to partner with Placentia Chamber of Commerce, Town of Placentia, and other local organizations in sponsoring Hike Placentia, an initiative that is connecting and upgrading various existing local trails to create a new integrated coastal trail system.
This hiking trail project is truly a valuable addition to the recreational experience for residents and visitors alike. In particular, the Port is supportive of plans to improve trails and signage within lands owned by the Port, especially the Backlands Trail System which includes the Annie Healey Trail.
Brightly painted visual indicators and markings are in place along the trail network to provide hikers with directional awareness, and to identify areas of interest and the connection between trail segments.
