Port of Argentia Named Among Top Canadian Ports to Support Offshore Wind Industry

Argentia, NL – September 12, 2025 – Port of Argentia has been recognized as one of Canada’s leading ports with the capacity to support the rapidly growing offshore wind industry. The announcement comes as part of a new report released by Net Zero Atlantic, Assessment of Atlantic Canadian Ports to Support Offshore Wind Development, which identifies ten ports across Atlantic Canada positioned to play a pivotal role in future offshore wind projects.

The report highlights Port of Argentia’s unique combination of deep-water access, expansive uplands, and existing heavy industrial infrastructure as key advantages. Argentia was one of only a select few ports deemed capable of supporting the full range of offshore wind activities, including fixed-bottom marshalling, floating staging and integration, and floating foundation assembly.

“This recognition confirms Port of Argentia’s strategic importance in the clean energy transition,” said Scott Penney, CEO of Port of Argentia. “We are ready to build on our proven capabilities and work with partners across industry and government to ensure Atlantic Canada becomes a global leader in offshore wind.”

Port of Argentia is already active in offshore wind marshalling and has a proven track record of supporting large-scale industrial projects, including construction of a concrete gravity-based drilling platform at its purpose-built graving dock.

The report notes that with targeted infrastructure upgrades, including the planned Cooper Cove Dock Expansion and enhancements to upland storage, the Port could be fully equipped to serve as a hub for floating offshore wind development.

Development cost estimates for Argentia range between $8.8 million and $230 million, depending on project scope, with projected timelines of 21 to 51 months. These figures place Argentia among the most cost-effective and expedient options for offshore wind staging and integration in the region.
