Port Signs Agreement for Wind Energy to Hydrogen Project

Port of Argentia is pleased to announce the signing of an Option to Lease Agreement with Pattern Energy Group LP to advance the development of a substantial renewable energy project at Argentia, including wind energy production and green hydrogen and derivate renewable fuels production and export facility.

Pattern Energy is one of the largest producers of wind energy in Canada and operates a project fleet of over 6 gigawatts of renewable energy globally. Through the agreement, Pattern Energy will determine the commercial feasibility of wind energy and green hydrogen production at the Port and undertake development activities for the construction of wind turbines, a hydrogen electrolysis plant and storage facility, and related green fuels infrastructure on Port lands. Working with strategic supply chain partners, the project aims to export green fuels, including carbon-free green ammonia to global markets. 

Pattern Energy plans to present its project vision to local stakeholders this fall, providing details and development timelines. Stay tuned for details.

Argentia Identified as Preferred Site for Aquaculture Feed

Grieg Seafoods NL has identified Argentia as a preferred site to receive aquaculture feed. Product is shipped to Argentia and will be collected by specially equipped vessels for distribution to sea cages in Placentia Bay.

Argentia Gold Expands to Cannabis Retailer

Argentia Gold, a local cannabis producer and packager offering over 40 products, has opened a licensed cannabis retail outlet at its facility in Argentia. Over 20 staff work at the production, retail and export operation.

Port Actively Attends Global Conferences Promoting Business Development

Port of Argentia marketing, promotion and business development initiatives has been quite active as Port officials have attended several global conferences recently, gathering industry intelligence in key sectors, including traditional and renewable energy sources. 

The Port exhibited at Energy NL’s conference and tradeshow and attended the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, Offshore Technical Society in Houston, International Partners Forum in Atlantic City, U.S. Offshore Wind in Boston, and SEUS-CP in Savannah. Attendance at these key industry sector events provided Port representatives with an opportunity to forge strategic business connections and promote Argentia to major global companies in traditional and emerging new economies.

Port Plans Dock Expansion at Cooper Cove 

Port of Argentia has filed applications with funding partners for a proposed dock infrastructure expansion in Cooper Cove to support the Port’s growth in emerging new economies in renewable energy and U.S. offshore wind projects.
