Monopile Feeder Campaign Kicks Off

The outbound feedering campaign to transport offshore wind monopiles for installation at Eastern United States offshore wind projects has commenced and will continue throughout the construction season.

The Port received 40 monopiles since last summer and stored the offshore wind foundations at a specially designed marshalling yard on the former runways at Argentia. Now, heavy transport vessels collect the monopiles and bring them to their destination in support of the energy transition.

Cenovus Reaches Significant Milestone

Cenovus Energy reached a significant milestone recently marking the completion of major construction on the Concrete Gravity Structure (CGS) for the West White Rose project.

The CGS, being constructed in a purpose-built graving dock at Argentia, reached its final height of 145.2 metres after the final concrete pour. In Texas, the final heavy lift was executed, installing the last crane and completing the top-sides structure.

Next, the project team will focus on interior completion and commissioning for both structures before they are towed out and installed in the West White Rose field in offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.

Placentia Area Theatre d’Heritage

Port of Argentia is pleased to partner with Placentia Area Theatre d’Heritage (PATH) at a Patron of the Arts sponsorship level.

With 2024 designated by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador as the Year of the Arts, PATH intends to capitalize on this special opportunity to leverage its growing reputation and expand its offerings this season to be recognized as one of the premiere theater destinations in the province.

To achieve this goal, PATH is adding professional actors to its troupe to compliment the many talented semi-professional and emerging artists it employs each season. PATH has added four new high-quality shows to this season, including a return to Castle Hill National Historic Site with The Battle for Terre Neuve play.

Ports Receives Green Light for Cooper Cove

Port of Argentia has reached a significant milestone in its Cooper Cove Marine Terminal Expansion Project with the recent announcement by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC), that following a review and public consultations, it reached the decision an impact assessment is not required for the project.

IAAC’s decision follows an earlier announcement by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to release the Cooper Cove Marine Terminal Expansion Project from environmental assessment, with conditions.

An environmental impact assessment is a process to identify, predict and evaluate the potential environmental effects of a proposed project.

Through a competitive bid process, the Port recently identified qualified bidders for the project and a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued soon for the design/build of the new wharf facility.
