Port of Argentia and White Rose Oil Field

Port of Argentia is pleased with the announcement today by Husky Energy and its partners that the wellhead platform project for the White Rose oil field offshore Newfoundland has been sanctioned.

Board Chairperson Vivian Smith states, “Port of Argentia looks forward to playing host to the next large scale construction project for this Province’s growing offshore industry. Over the next four years, we expect to see significant employment and other economic benefits associated with this project and are therefore delighted with this news for the Placentia area and all of Newfoundland & Labrador”. Ms. Smith goes on to say, “On behalf of the Board, I would like to congratulate Husky and our Provincial Government on working hard to find the solutions to make this project happen during these challenging times for the offshore industry”.

A concrete gravity structure (CGS) will be constructed at Argentia over the next 4 years in a purpose built graving dock already installed by Husky on the Argentia Northside Peninsula. Once constructed, the CGS will be towed out of Argentia Harbour in the spring/summer of 2021 to the White Rose field on Newfoundland’s Grand Banks, where it will be mated with a topsides module to complete the wellhead platform unit.

Chris Newhook, CEO (Acting) for Port of Argentia states, “We take this positive announcement by Husky today as further confirmation that Argentia’s port and abundant industrial uplands offer compelling advantages to support the growth of Newfoundland’s offshore industry. Our Port team is looking forward now to working with Husky and its partners to support the successful execution of this project and establishing Argentia as a preferred site for other large scale offshore fabrication, construction, maintenance & repair projects in the future”.
